Headlight (HI-BEAM) Circuit: Procedure
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Active Test.
- Check that the relay operates.MAIN BODY

- INSPECT RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL RELAY)
- Remove the running light relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block assembly.
- Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 6 (+B).
- Connect the negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 4 (H) and 3 (E).
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (HLOR) - Battery negative terminal Always 11 to 14 V 5 (HLOL) - Battery negative terminal Always 11 to 14 V TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*a Component without harness connected
(Running Light Relay) - Reinstall the running light relay.

- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND)
- Remove the running light relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 6 (+B) (running light relay terminal) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V - Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 (E) (running light relay terminal) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*1 No. 2 Engine Room Relay Block *2 Running Light Relay Terminal - Reinstall the running light relay.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY)
- Remove the running light relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block assembly.
- Disconnect the 3B instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 4 (H) (running light relay terminal) - 3B-25 Always Below 1 Ω 4 (H) (running light relay terminal) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
- Reinstall the running light relay.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY
- Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly.
- Remove the main body ECU from the instrument panel junction block assembly.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3B-25 - 3F-22 (DIM) Always Below 1 Ω 3B-25 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*a Component without harness connected
(Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly) - Reinstall the main body ECU.
- Reinstall the instrument panel junction block assembly.
NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY
OK → See step 12
- INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY (DIM RELAY)
- Inspect the headlight dimmer relay. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION .
NG → REPLACE HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND)
- Remove the headlight dimmer relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition 2 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V 5 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*1 No. 2 Engine Room Relay Block *2 Headlight Dimmer Relay Holder - Reinstall the headlight dimmer relay.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY)
- Remove the headlight dimmer relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block assembly.
- Disconnect the 3B instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - 3B-25 Always Below 1 Ω 1 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
- Reinstall the headlight dimmer relay.
NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY
- Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly.
- Remove the main body ECU from the instrument panel junction block assembly.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance

- Reinstall the instrument panel junction block assembly.
NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY

- REPLACE RUNNING LIGHT RELAY. Refer to REMOVAL
- PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU. Refer to REMOVAL
