Headlight (HI-BEAM) Circuit: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Active Test.
    5. Check that the relay operates.
      MAIN BODY

      • *1: w/ Daytime Running Light System
      • *2: w/o Daytime Running Light System

      Relay operates. (High beam headlights illuminate.)

  2. INSPECT RUNNING LIGHT RELAY (DRL RELAY) 
    1. Remove the running light relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block assembly.
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 6 (+B).

    3. Connect the negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 4 (H) and 3 (E).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (HLOR) - Battery negative terminal Always 11 to 14 V
      5 (HLOL) - Battery negative terminal Always 11 to 14 V

      (Running Light Relay)
    5. Reinstall the running light relay.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the running light relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      6 (+B) (running light relay terminal) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (E) (running light relay terminal) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      *1 No. 2 Engine Room Relay Block
      *2 Running Light Relay Terminal
    4. Reinstall the running light relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RUNNING LIGHT RELAY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the running light relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block assembly.
    2. Disconnect the 3B instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (H) (running light relay terminal) - 3B-25 Always Below 1 Ω
      4 (H) (running light relay terminal) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    5. Reinstall the running light relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly.

    2. Remove the main body ECU from the instrument panel junction block assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3B-25 - 3F-22 (DIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      3B-25 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly)
    4. Reinstall the main body ECU.
    5. Reinstall the instrument panel junction block assembly.

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 

    OK → See step   12 

  6. INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY (DIM RELAY) 
    1. Inspect the headlight dimmer relay. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION .

    NG → REPLACE HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the headlight dimmer relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      2 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      5 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 2 Engine Room Relay Block
      *2 Headlight Dimmer Relay Holder
    3. Reinstall the headlight dimmer relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Remove the headlight dimmer relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block assembly.
    2. Disconnect the 3B instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - 3B-25 Always Below 1 Ω
      1 (Headlight dimmer relay holder) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the instrument panel junction block assembly connector.
    5. Reinstall the headlight dimmer relay.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the instrument panel junction block assembly.

    2. Remove the main body ECU from the instrument panel junction block assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3B-25 - 3F-22 (DIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      3B-25 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly)
    4. Reinstall the main body ECU.
    5. Reinstall the instrument panel junction block assembly.

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY 

    OK → See step   12 

  10. REPLACE RUNNING LIGHT RELAY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
  12. REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
