DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the tester, read the Data List.
      COMBINATION METER

      Min.: 0
      Max.: 127.5
      Fuel sender input value Unit: Liter

      OK

      Fuel input signal displayed on the tester is approximately the same as the fuel receiver gauge indication.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   11 

  2. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] .
    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [03/2012 - ] .

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH PUMP AND GAUGE

    1. Remove the fuel suction tube assembly with pump and gauge. Refer to REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      G7-1 (FS+) - 1 Always Below 1 Ω
      G7-2 (FS-) - 2 Always Below 1 Ω

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Fuel Suction Tube Assembly with Pump and Gauge)

    NG → See step   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT NO. 2 FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] .
    2. Inspect the No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [03/2012 - ] .

    NG → See step   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT FUEL TANK RETURN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the fuel tank return tube sub-assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] .
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      G6-1 (L) - 3 Always Below 1 Ω
      G6-2 (FS+) - 2 Always Below 1 Ω

      (Fuel Tank Return Tube Sub-assembly)

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH PUMP AND GAUGE) 
    1. Disconnect the D7 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the G7 fuel suction tube assembly with pump and gauge connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      D7-28 (FS-) - G7-2 (FS-) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      D7-28 (FS-) or G7-2 (FS-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH PUMP AND GAUGE - FUEL TANK RETURN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the G7 fuel suction tube assembly with pump and gauge connector.
    2. Disconnect the G6 fuel tank return tube sub-assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      D7-1 (FS+) - G6-2 (FS+) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      D7-1 (FS+) or G6-2 (FS+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL TANK RETURN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the D7 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the G6 fuel tank return tube sub-assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      D7-27 (L) - G6-1 (L) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      D7-27 (L) or G6-1 (L) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   9 

  9. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] 
  10. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] 
  11. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] 
  12. REPLACE FUEL SUCTION TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH PUMP AND GAUGE. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] 
  13. REPLACE NO. 2 FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] 
  14. REPLACE FUEL TANK RETURN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - ]
