Malfunction in Water Temperature Warning Light: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Recheck for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Recheck for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Engine control DTC is not output A
      Engine control DTC is output B

    B → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. According to the display on the tester, perform the Active Test.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Water Temperature Meter Operation Engine coolant temperature warning light and indicator light LOW: Engine coolant temperature indicator light illuminates.
      NORMAL: Both engine coolant temperature warning light and indicator light turn off.
      HIGH: Engine coolant temperature warning light flashes.      		 Vehicle is stopped and ignition switch ON

      OK

      Value selected during Active Test is displayed.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMP) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the tester, read the Data List.
      COMBINATION METER

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Coolant Temperature Engine coolant temperature/ Min.: 0 (32), Max.: 127.5 (261.5) After warming up: 75 to 105 (167 to 221) Unit: °C (°F)

      OK

      Vehicle's coolant temperature and tester value are the same.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK → See step   6 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  6. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  7. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  8. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. GO TO SFI SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
