DTC B181A/7A: Short in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit; DTC B181B/7A: Open in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit; DTC B181C/7A: Short to GND in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit; DTC B181D/7A: Short to B+ in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG (VARIABLE VENT HOLE SQUIB) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connectors from the front passenger airbag.
    4. Connect the white wire side of SST (resistance: 2.1 Ω) to connector G (green connector).
      WARNING:

      Never connect the tester to the front passenger airbag (variable vent hole squib) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.

      NOTE:
      • Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting SST.
      • Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.
      • SST: 09843-18061 
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    10. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B181A, B181B, B181C or B181D is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B181A, B181B, B181C and B181D may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   7 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect SST from connector G.
    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
    5. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and front passenger airbag side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The lock button is not disengaged, and the claw of the lock is not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK VARIABLE VENT HOLE SQUIB CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z3-2 (VHP+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      z3-1 (VHP-) - Body ground
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z3-2 (VHP+) - z3-1 (VHP-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z3-2 (VHP+) - z3-1 (VHP-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      z3-2 (VHP+) - Body ground
      z3-1 (VHP-) - Body ground

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to its original condition.

    2. Connect the connectors to the front passenger airbag and center airbag sensor.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B181A, B181B, B181C or B181D is output A
      DTC B181A, B181B, B181C or B181D is not output B

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B181A, B181B, B181C and B181D may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  5. CHECK VARIABLE VENT HOLE SQUIB CIRCUIT 
    1. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to its original condition.

    2. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the No. 2 instrument panel wire.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Cz2-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      Cz2-2 - Body ground
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Cz2-1 - Cz2-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Cz2-1 - Cz2-2 Always 1 MΩ or higher
      Cz2-1 - Body ground
      Cz2-2 - Body ground

    OK → REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

  6. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE) 
    1. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to its original condition.

    2. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the instrument panel wire.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      CJ3-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      CJ3-2 - Body ground
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      CJ3-1 - CJ3-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      CJ3-1 - CJ3-2 Always 1 MΩ or higher
      CJ3-1 - Body ground
      CJ3-2 - Body ground

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

  7. REPLACE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  9. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
