DTC B1660/43: Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      RESULT

      ON/OFF Indicator Illumination Proceed to
      One or both indicators are always on A
      Both indicators are always off B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and clock.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and clock.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and clock side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

      (Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator)
      *2 Center Airbag Sensor

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Connect the connector to the clock.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK

      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → See step   16 

  6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - CLOCK) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the clock.
    4. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C16-3 (PAON) - C16-2 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω
    6. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C16-3 (PAON) - C16-2 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      C16-3 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      C16-2 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
    8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    9. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    10. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C16-3 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      C16-2 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK → See step   14 

  7. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and clock.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and clock.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and clock side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - CLOCK) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the clock.
    4. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C16-3 (PAON) - C16-2 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω
    6. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C16-3 (PAON) - C16-2 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      C16-3 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      C16-2 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
    8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    9. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    10. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C16-3 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      C16-2 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (SOURCE VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C16-12 (IG+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLOCK - BATTERY) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connector to the clock.
    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    7. Check the indicator according to the table below.

      OK

      Connection Switch Condition Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator
      C20-23 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch ON "ON" comes on
      C20-17 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON "OFF" comes on

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    9. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      OK

      DTC B1660/43 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  13. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  14. REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  15. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  16. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM 
  17. REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
