DTC B1642/81: Lost Communication with Side Satellite Sensor Bus RH; DTC B1647/82: Lost Communication with Side Satellite Sensor Bus LH: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642 and B1647 are not output A
      DTC B1647 is output B
      DTC B1642 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1642 and B1647 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    A → See step   28 

    B → See step   15 

    C: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and side airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J4-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      J4-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 8 (BBR+) and 11 (BBR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J4-4 (BBR+) - J4-3 (BBR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J4-4 (BBR+) - J4-3 (BBR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J4-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J4-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR 
    1. Check that the connector is properly connected to the rear airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connector is properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the rear airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connector (on the rear airbag sensor RH side) is not damaged.

      OK

      The connector is not deformed or damaged.

      *2 Side Airbag Sensor RH

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J4-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      J4-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 4 (BCR+) and 3 (BCR-) of connector C.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J4-1 (BCR+) - J4-2 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J4-1 (BCR+) - J4-2 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J4-1 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J4-2 (BCR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Check that the connector is properly connected to the door side airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connector is properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the door side airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connector (on the door side airbag sensor RH side) is not damaged.

      OK

      The connector is not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J5-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      J5-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BDR+) and 1 (BDR-) of connector E.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J5-1 (BDR+) - J5-2 (BDR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector E.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J5-1 (BDR+) - J5-2 (BDR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J5-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J5-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor, rear airbag sensor RH and door side airbag sensor.

    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642 and B1647 are not output A
      DTC B1647 is output B
      DTC B1642 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1642 and B1647 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the side airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    C: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Interchange the rear airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642 and B1647 are not output A
      DTC B1647 is output B
      DTC B1642 is output C

      HINT:

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    10. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

  13. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Interchange the door side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642 and B1647 are not output A
      DTC B1647 is output B
      DTC B1642 is output C

      HINT:

  14. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH - FRONT DOOR WIRE RH) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

  15. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor LH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and side airbag sensor LH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

  17. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH)

    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 8 (BBL+) and 15 (BBL-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      H6-4 (BBL+) - H6-3 (BBL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      H6-4 (BBL+) - H6-3 (BBL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      H6-4 (BBL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  18. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR 
    1. Check that the connector is properly connected to the rear airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connector is properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  19. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the rear airbag sensor LH.
    2. Check that the connector (on the rear airbag sensor LH side) is not damaged.

      OK

      The connector is not deformed or damaged.

  20. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 4 (BCL+) and 3 (BCL-) of connector C.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      H6-1 (BCL+) - H6-2 (BCL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      H6-1 (BCL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  21. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Check that the connector is properly connected to the door side airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connector is properly connected.

    NG → CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  22. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the door side airbag sensor LH.
    2. Check that the connector (on the door side airbag sensor LH side) is not damaged.

      OK

      The connector is not deformed or damaged.

  23. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT

    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector E.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  24. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor, rear airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor.

    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642 and B1647 are not output A
      DTC B1642 is output B
      DTC B1647 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1642 and B1647 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  25. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    1. Disconnect the No. 2 floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

    4. Turn the ignition switch off.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BDL+) and 1 (BDL-) of connector C.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.
