Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    4. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Recheck for DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    4. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Recheck for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Brake control DTC is not output A
      Brake control DTC is output B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test". Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .

      Body Electrical / Combination meter / Active Test:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range
      Speed Meter Operation 0 / 64 (40) / 129 (80) / 193 (120) km/h (mph) Value selected during Active Test is displayed

      OK

      Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as that of the speedometer reading.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and the tester on.
    3. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List". Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .

      Body Electrical / Combination meter / Data List:

      Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is approximately the same as the actual vehicle speed

      NOTE:

      Determine whether the value displayed on the tester is within the acceptable range by referring to reference values described in "ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION" See step  1.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK → See step   9 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or normal one. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → END 

  6. GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART. Refer to  DTC U0129: Lost Communication with Skid Control ECU  
  7. GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART 
  8. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE 
  10. REPLACE ABS AND TRACTION ACTUATOR (SKID CONTROL ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL
