Fuel Gauge Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    4. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Recheck for DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1500 is not output A
      DTC B1500 is output B

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test". Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .

      Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range
      Fuel Meter Operation EMPTY / 1/2 / FULL Value selected during Active Test is displayed

      OK

      Needle indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

    2. Check that the float moves smoothly between E and F.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1-2 Float level is F 12 to 18 Ω
      1-2 Float level is E 405 to 415 Ω
    4. Reinstall the fuel sender gauge assembly.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F2 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the L7 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F2-9 (L) - L7-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      F2-9 (L) or L7-2 (FS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      L7-3 (FE) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the combination meter assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or a normal one. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      The operation of the fuel receiver gauge returns to normal.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK → END 

  6. GO TO DTC B1500. Refer to  DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected  
  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
