Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FR/FL/RR/RL WHEEL SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC /Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      FR Wheel Speed Wheel speed sensor (FR) reading/min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Actual wheel speed -
      FL Wheel Speed Wheel speed sensor (FL) reading/min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Actual wheel speed -
      RR Wheel Speed Wheel speed sensor (RR) reading/min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Actual wheel speed -
      RL Wheel Speed Wheel speed sensor (RL) reading/min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Actual wheel speed -

      OK

      Vehicle speed display on the Techstream is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed.

    NG → GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect the C6 meter connector.
    2. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform of the meter.
      Tester Connection Tool setting Vehicle condition
      C6-25 - Body ground 5V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV. Driving at approx. 20 km/h (12.4 mph)

      OK

      As shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      As vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal waveform narrows.

    NG → See step   3 

    OK → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER - BRAKE ACTUATOR)

    1. Disconnect the C6 meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the S1 ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      C6-25 - S1-26 Below 1 Ω
      C6-25 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU WITH ACTUATOR)

    1. Disconnect the S1 ECU connector.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S1-26 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-26 - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK → REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
