Upper Instrument Panel: Removal

  1. BOLT, SCREW AND NUT TABLE 

    HINT:

    All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Tilt the steering column assembly down as far as possible.
    2. Using a moulding remover, detach the 9 claws.

      HINT:

      Tape the moulding remover tip before use.

    3. Remove the meter hood.

  4. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the screw, and detach the 2 claws.
    2. Remove the combination meter and disconnect the connector.

  5. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob.

  6. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL 
    1. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 claws.

      HINT:

      Tape the moulding remover tip before use.

    2. Disconnect the connector.
    3. Remove the clamp and console panel.
  7. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY 
  8. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIO BRACKET 
    1. Remove the nut, screw and No. 1 radio bracket.

  9. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIO BRACKET 
    1. Remove the nut, screw and No. 2 radio bracket.
  10. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the glove compartment door stopper from the glove compartment door.

    2. Slightly press in on the upper sides of the glove compartment door assembly to release the 2 stoppers.
    3. Detach the 4 claws and remove the glove compartment door.

  11. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR STOPPER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Detach the clip and remove the glove compartment door stopper.

  12. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  14. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  15. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  16. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR 
  17. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 screws and 2 bolts.
    2. Detach the 13 claws.
    3. Pull the upper instrument panel rearward to remove it.
