Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK ILLUMINATION OPERATION 
    1. Operate the rheostat and check that the amount of light for the combination meter assembly, the radio and player, the integration control and A/T shift lever.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      All illumination does not change A
      Combination meter illumination does not change B
      Radio and player illumination does not change C
      Integration control and panel illumination does not change D
      A/T shift lever illumination does not change E

    B : Go to step   6 

    C : Go to step   7 

    D : Go to step   8 

    E : Go to step   9 

    A : Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT FUSE (TAIL) 
    1. Remove the TAIL fuse from the instrument panel junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance of the fuse.

      Standard resistance: 

      Below 1 Ω 

    NG : REPLACE FUSE 

    OK : Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the combination switch.
    2. Measure the resistance of the switch.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      10 (T1) - 13 (B1) TAIL Below 1 Ω
      HEAD
      OFF 10 kΩ or higher

    NG : REPLACE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    OK : Go to Next Step 

  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION SWITCH - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the C8 switch connector.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      C8-13 - Body ground 10 to 14 V

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK : Go to Next Step 

  5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the R6 rheostat connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      R6-5 - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK : REPLACE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 

  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER - RHEOSTAT AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the C6 meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the R6 rheostat connector.
    3. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C6-26 - Body ground Light control switch is TAIL or HEAD 10 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      C6-27 - R6-3 Below 1 Ω

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK : REPLACE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

  7. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (RADIO AND PLAYER - RHEOSTAT AND BATTERY)

    1. Disconnect the R2 and R3 radio and player connectors.
    2. Disconnect the R6 rheostat connector.
    3. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      R2-10 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      R3-5 - R6-6 Below 1 Ω

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK : REPLACE RADIO AND PLAYER 

  8. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL - RHEOSTAT AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the I13 panel connector.
    2. Disconnect the R6 rheostat connector.
    3. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I13-4 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      I13-5 - R6-6 Below 1 Ω

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK : REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL 

  9. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (A/T SHIFT LEVER ILLUMINATION - RHEOSTAT AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the A7 A/T shift lever connector.
    2. Disconnect the R6 rheostat connector.
    3. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A7-1 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A7-3 - R6-6 Below 1 Ω

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK : REPLACE A/T SHIFT LEVER ILLUMINATION
