Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
- CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0351, P0352, P0353 OR P0354)
- Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester ON.
- Clear DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
- Shuffle arrangement of the ignition coils (among No. 1 to No. 4 cylinders).NOTE: Do not shuffle the connectors.
- Perform a simulation test.
- Check DTCs displayed on the tester.

B : REPLACE IGNITION COIL
A : GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT ECM (IGT1, IGT2, IGT3, IGT4 AND IGF SIGNAL)
- Inspect the ECM using an oscilloscope.
- While cranking or idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the E3 and E4 ECM connectors.
Standard voltage

NG : GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL - ECM)
- Disconnect the I2, I3, I4 or I5 ignition coil connector.
- Disconnect the E3 ECM connector.
- Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.
Standard resistance (Check for open)

NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK : GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT IGNITION COIL (POWER SOURCE)
- Disconnect the I2, I3, I4 or I5 ignition coil connector.
- Measure the resistance of the ignition coil connectors.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Specified Condition GND (I2-4) - Body ground Below 1 Ω GND (I3-4) - Body ground GND (I4-4) - Body ground GND (I5-4) - Body ground - Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the wire harness side connectors.
Standard voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Specified Condition +B (I2-1) - GND (I2-4) 9 to 14 V +B (I3-1) - GND (I3-4) 9 to 14 V +B (I4-1) - GND (I4-4) 9 to 14 V +B (I5-1) - GND (I5-4) 9 to 14 V
NG : Go to step 5
OK : REPLACE IGNITION COIL
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - IGNITION SWITCH)
- Disconnect the I2, I3, I4 or I5 ignition coil connector.
- Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
- Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
