Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Apply oil to the crankshaft bearing surfaces.
- Apply a 2-5 mm (0.08-0.20 in) bead (a) of sealer GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) to the surface of the engine block-to-lower crankcase mating surface.
- Install the lower crankcase.
Tap gently into place with a suitable tool, if necessary. Ensure it is aligned properly on the dowels.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices. - Install the NEW crankshaft bearing bolts in sequence finger tight.
- Tighten the crankshaft bearing bolts in sequence.
Tighten Tighten the crankshaft bearing bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
- Tighten the crankshaft bearing bolts in sequence using the J 45059 .
Tighten Tighten the crankshaft bearing bolts to 70 degrees using the J 45059 .
- Tighten the crankshaft bearing bolts in sequence.
- Tighten the lower crankcase perimeter bolts in sequence.
Tighten Tighten the lower crankcase perimeter bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
- Install the crankcase position sensor. Refer toCrankshaft Position Sensor Replacement .
- Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
- Install the engine-to-transaxle brace.
Tighten Tighten the bolts to 72 Nm (53 lb ft).
- Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill with engine oil, start the engine and inspect for leaks.
