Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection

- Clean the engine flywheel with solvent.
- Dry the engine flywheel with compressed air.
- Inspect the engine flywheel for the following:
- Damaged ring gear teeth
- Stress cracks around the flywheel-to-crankshaft bolt hole locations
- Welded areas that retain the ring gear onto the flywheel for cracking
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to repair the welded areas that retain the ring gear to the flywheel plate. Install a new flywheel.
IMPORTANT:
In order to maintain the proper component balance, contact surface taper and heat transfer, manual transmission flywheels are NOT to be machined.
CAUTION:
Bodily injury may occur if the cleaning solvent is inhaled or exposed to the skin.
