Front Disc Caliper: Installation

NOTE: Always replace brake pads in axle sets.
  1. Ensure caliper piston is bottomed fully in its caliper bore.
  2. Lubricate pin sleeve with silicone grease, and install into caliper.
  3. Lubricate the straight section (not the threads) of the guide pins with silicone grease.
    4. NOTE: Linings are identified for left or right use. Install linings so arrow is pointing downward, with forward rotation of wheel.
    NOTE: Remove all rust and corrosion from caliper brackets when installing brake pads. If installing used brake pads, remove all rust and corrosion from ends of brake pads and from the notch. Ensure brake pads move freely in caliper bracket when brakes are assembled.
  4. Install inner and outer brake pads into caliper.
  5. Install caliper body onto caliper support.
  6. Install guide pins and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install guide pin bushing caps.
  8. Install caliper retaining spring.
  9. Connect brake hose to caliper using new washers. Tighten to specification.
  10. Bleed brakes. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  .
  11. Install front wheels. Tighten lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  12. Lower vehicle from hoist.
