Disc Brakes
NOTE:
After installation of any new brake components, set the parking brake system prior to performing final parking brake adjustment. To set parking brake system after adjustment, pull up on parking brake lever 3-4 times with about 100 lbs. (445 N.m) of force.
- Remove brake boot from console by squeezing sides and pulling upward.
- Raise vehicle onto hoist.
- Remove rear wheels.
- Access to brake shoe adjuster is through a hole in front face of rotor.
- Using a medium sized flat-bladed screwdriver, turn adjuster (clockwise) at rear rotor until brake disc locks. Turn adjuster back (counter clockwise) until disc moves freely.
- Pull parking lever to the 3rd click.
- Tighten adjuster nut at base of parking brake lever until the rear wheel can be turned by hand (heavy drag), equal to both rear wheels.
- Apply and release parking brake several times. There should be no drag when parking brake lever is in rest position.
- Pull parking brake to the 3rd click. There should be heavy drag at both wheels when turned by hand.
- If necessary, repeat steps 3 - 5 until adjustment is correct.
- Install parking brake lever boot.
- Install rear wheels. Tighten lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Lower vehicle from hoist.
NOTE:
If both rear wheels do not exhibit similar drag in step 8
, check for damaged or incorrectly installed rear disc or drum brake assembly components, parking brake cables, and/or parking brake lever assembly. Correct as necessary, then return to step 3
