Front Brake Rotor: Installation
NOTE:
Whenever brake rotor has been separated from the hub/axle flange, any rust or contaminants should be cleaned from the hub/axle flange and brake rotor mating surfaces. Failure to do this may result in excessive assembled Lateral Runout (LRO) of brake rotor, which could lead to brake pulsation.
- Using Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit (J-42450-A), thoroughly clean any rust or corrosion from the mating surface of the hub/axle flange.
- Using Rotor Resurfacing Kit (J-41013), thoroughly clean any rust or corrosion from mating surface and mounting surface of brake rotor.
- Inspect mating surfaces of the hub/axle flange and rotor to ensure that there are no foreign particles or debris remaining.
- Install brake rotor to hub/axle flange. Use the match mark made prior to removal for proper orientation to flange.
- If brake rotor was removed and installed as part of a brake system repair, measure the assembled LRO of brake rotor to ensure optimum performance of the disc brakes.
- If brake rotor assembled LRO measurement exceeds specification, bring LRO to within specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove support and install brake caliper and brake caliper bracket as an assembly to the steering knuckle.
- Install wheels.
- Lower vehicle.
- If brake rotor was refinished or replaced, or if new brake pads were installed, burnish the pads and rotors. To burnish pads and rotors, accelerate vehicle to 30 MPH. Using moderate to firm pressure, apply brakes to bring vehicle to a stop. DO NOT allow brakes to lock. Repeat about 20 stops. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops in order to properly burnish brake pads and rotors.
