Description & Operation
The conventional (base) brake system consists of front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, with power assist. An optional ABS system is available on some models.
The master cylinder is a dual circuit unit designed for use in diagonally split hydraulic systems. With a diagonally split system, the left front and right rear brake are on one hydraulic circuit, while the right front and left rear are on the other.
The hydraulic brake pressure balance control system regulates brake fluid pressure delivered to hydraulic brake wheel circuits, in order to control the distribution of braking force. Pressure balance control on non-ABS equipped vehicles, is achieved through a proportioning valve assembly. Pressure balance control on ABS equipped vehicles, is achieved through the Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP), which is a function of the ABS modulator.
