1 Did you perform A Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End 
2 Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.
Does the rear compartment release?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay control ON and OFF.
Does the rear compartment release?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  3. Observe the trunk release input in the BCM data list.
Does the scan tool display active?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 12 
5 Connect a fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release switch ground circuit.
Does the scan tool display active?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 17

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive voltage circuit and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 7  Go to Step 20

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive voltage circuit and the rear compartment lid release relay control circuit.
  2. With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 11 
8 Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive voltage circuit and the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
Does the rear compartment lid release?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 9

  1. Reconnect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay control ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 18 
10 Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay control ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 16  Go to Step 19 
11 Test the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 25  Go to Step 15 
12 Test the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 25  Go to Step 15 
13 Inspect for poor connections at rear compartment lid release relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 25  Go to Step 21 
14 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

15 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

16 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

17 Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

18 Repair the open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 25  -
19 Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 25  -
20 Repair the open or high resistance in the battery positive circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 25  -
21 Replace the rear compartment lid release relay.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 25  -
22 Replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 25  -
23 Replace the rear compartment lid release actuator.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 25  -

IMPORTANT: When replacing the body control module (BCM) refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

25 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
