Rear Brake Shoes: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove rear wheels.
- Remove brake drum. See REAR DRUM .
- Remove adjuster spring. Disengage adjuster spring hook end from the tab on the adjuster actuator lever, then release spring from brake shoe web hole.
- Remove adjuster actuator lever from the pivot.
- Using the Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover (J-38400), spread the top of the brake shoes apart.
- Remove adjuster assembly from brake shoes.
- Position the hook end of the Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover under the universal spring and lightly pull universal spring end out of the shoe web hole. Hold the universal spring while removing the trailing brake shoe.
- Release parking brake cable from parking brake lever on the trailing shoe.
- Position the hook end of the Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover under the universal spring and lightly pull universal spring end out of the shoe web hole. Hold universal spring while removing the leading brake shoe.
NOTE:
Do not over stretch the adjuster spring. Damage can occur if spring is over stretched.
