Brake Pedal Height

  1. Turn ignition off. Pump the service brake pedal until all the reserve vacuum is exhausted from the brake booster. A definite change in pedal feel will occur.
  2. Install Brake Pedal Effort Gauge (SA9304NE) onto the brake pedal.
  3. Hook end of tape measure over the top edge of brake pedal and measure distance to the rim of the steering wheel.
  4. Apply service brake pedal with 100 lbs. (445 N) force and re-measure. The difference between the "at rest" pedal position and "applied" pedal position is the actual pedal travel and should not exceed 2.25" (57.0 mm).
  5. If pedal travel is greater than specified, check for other related brake problem.
