Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Check for BCM DTCs. If BCM DTC B3538 exists, go to next step. If BCM DTC B3538 does not exist, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Gray 24-pin BCM connector J2. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Check for continuity between ground and BCM harness connector J2 terminal A4 (White wire). See Fig 1 . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  3. Disconnect Gray 68-pin underhood fuse block connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Check for continuity between ground and underhood fuse block connector terminal C3 (component side). See Fig 2 . If continuity exists, replace oil life reset switch located in underhood fuse block. If continuity does not exist, repair short to ground in White wire between BCM and underhood fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
