Test B: Horn Inoperative

  1. Check HORN fuse (10-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between horn relay and horn. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Disconnect horn connector. Using a DVOM, check for continuity in Dark Green wire between horn relay and horn. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Green wire between horn relay and horn. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Swap horn relay with A/C relay. Press horn switch. If horn does not operate, go to next step. If horn operates, replace horn relay.
  4. Disconnect 4-pin SIR coil connector (Black) under steering column. Using a DVOM, check for voltage at terminal "A" (Black wire) on harness-side connector. If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair open in Black wire between horn relay and 4-pin SIR coil connector (Black). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  5. With 4-pin SIR coil connector (Black) still disconnected, using a DVOM, check for continuity between terminal "A" of 4-pin SIR coil connector (SIR coil side) and ground with horn switch depressed. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check horn switch. If horn switch is faulty, replace horn switch. If horn switch is okay, replace SIR coil. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  6. Disconnect horn connector. Using a DVOM, measure resistance across horn. If resistance is 2-4 ohms, problem is intermittent. If resistance is not 2-4 ohms, replace horn.
