Steering Column: Removal

  1. Set front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Before proceeding, disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove air bag module and steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  .
  2. Remove SIR coil assembly. Remove Data Link Connector (DLC) screws. Pull steering column filler panel forward and set down. Disconnect hood release cable. Pull hood release handle forward, remove cable, and slide pin out. Remove steering column filler panel.
  3. Disconnect multifunction switch connectors. Remove multifunction switch. Disconnect ignition switch connector at right steering column upper support bracket. On A/T models, disconnect park lock cable from ignition module.
  4. On all models, remove bolt and disconnect intermediate shaft from steering column. Remove column lower support bracket nuts and bolts. Remove column upper support bracket and bolts, and lower column. Disconnect harness clamps, and remove steering column.
