Removal & Installation (2001 Models)

NOTE: New bolts are supplied with rear oil seal kit.
  1. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN . Remove rear oil seal assembly bolts, and discard. Pry outside edges of rear oil seal carrier away from engine block, and remove seal carrier. Remove RTV from engine block and oil pan. Thoroughly clean engine block sealing surfaces with alcohol or equivalent. Inspect oil seal lip contact surfaces for rust or damage.
  2. To install, apply a .2" (5 mm) bead of RTV to rear oil assembly. Apply a thin film of engine oil to crankshaft scaling surface where seal rides. Install seal assembly onto engine block and crankshaft with installation sleeve in place. Install 4 NEW rear oil seal assembly bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
