SERVICE ENGINE SOON Telltale

The SERVICE ENGINE SOON telltale indicator is turned on by the instrument cluster when it receives a command from PCM on 4-cylinder models, or BCM on V6 models. The SERVICE ENGINE SOON telltale indicator will be illuminated to alert the driver that of a possible problem with the engine or automatic transaxle control system, and only for emission related faults. For a system check, instrument cluster will illuminate SERVICE ENGINE SOON telltale indicator for about 3 seconds during engine start-up.
