Test C: Fuel Gauge Inoperative

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, access fuel level. If scan tool displays fuel level, go to next step. If scan tool does not display fuel level, diagnose fuel level sensor or circuit concern. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Using scan tool, perform instrument cluster LAMP and GAUGE SWEEP tests. If fuel gauge sweeps properly, check for intermittent poor connections. If fuel gauge does not sweep properly, replace instrument cluster.
