Removal & Installation

  1. Install Engine Support (J 28467-A). Raise and support vehicle.
    WARNING: Engine mounts will not provide sufficient support for engine when transmission is removed. Engine support must be used.
  2. Remove transmission. See appropriate TRANSMISSION REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING. Remove flex plate. Remove and discard flexplate bolts. Drill small tap hole into steel ring of seal. Insert self taping screw. Remove rear main oil seal. DO NOT damage sealing surface when removing seal.
  3. Using Rear Main Oil Seal Installer (J42067), install rear main seal. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW flexplate bolts. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
