Water Pump: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove air inlet tube and air cleaner assembly. See Fig 1 .

  3. Drain coolant. See BLEEDING  .
  4. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield. See Fig 2 .
  5. Remove thermostat and water feed assembly bolts. Twist water feed pipe while pulling to remove it from water pump. See Figure .
  6. Remove water pump sprocket access plate from front cover. See Fig 3 .

  7. Use bolts removed from sprocket access plate and install water pump holding tool. See Fig 4 .

  8. Remove water pump retaining bolts. Be sure to remove retaining bolt that is accessed from front of engine block.
  9. Remove water pump. See Fig 5 .
