Diagnostic Procedure
NOTE:
For connector end views and component locations, see Figure
-Figure
. For circuit locations, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Check transaxle fluid. Fill if necessary. See appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING. Go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, record freeze frame and failure records for reference. Clear DTC. Drive vehicle at 45 MPH. Using scan tool, command TCC solenoid on. Observe TCC slip speed. If TCC slip speed is less than 50 RPM, seeDIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If TCC slip speed is 50 RPM or more, go to next step.
- Check TCC PWM shift valve circuit. Inspect for the following: Leak at TCC PWM solenoid, TCC regulator apply valve or control valve stuck in release position, or plugged TCC PWM solenoid filter. See HYDRA-MATIC 4T40-E & 4T45-E OVERHAUL article. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repair is complete, select DTC on scan tool. Select CLEAR INFO function. Select SPECIFIC DTC and enter DTC "P0741". Drive vehicle in "D" position with throttle position more than 8 percent to obtain 45 MPH. With TCC commanded on and engaged, slip speed must be less than 50 RPM for 4 seconds. If DTC P0741 is not present, repair is complete. If DTC P0741 is still present, repeat test.
