Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Determine if DTCs P0761, P0763 or P0764 are present. These flags must be eliminated first as a possible cause for DTC P0782.
  2. Check actuator operation. See ACTUATOR QUICK CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Operation sound of all actuators should be similar.
  3. Air check 3rd clutch operation. See TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANS SERVICE section. Repair as needed. If clutch air checks okay, disassembly of transaxle will be necessary to inspect internal components.
  4. Cross-channel leaks may cause 3rd gear to be applied all the time. If DTC P0782 is present and no reverse is possible, check for damaged end cover input hub seals.
  5. If clutch applies and releases, check valve body. If clutch does not operate okay, check for damaged end cover or other internal problem.
