Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Determine if DTCs P0740, P0756, P0758 or P0759 are present. These flags must be eliminated first as a possible cause for DTC P0781.
  2. Check actuator operation. See ACTUATOR QUICK CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Operation sound of all actuators should be similar.
  3. Air check 2nd clutch operation. See TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANS SERVICE section. Repair as needed. If clutch air checks okay, disassembly of transaxle will be necessary to inspect internal components.
  4. Cross-channel leaks may cause 2nd gear to be applied all the time. If DTC P0781 is present and no reverse is possible, check for damaged end cover input hub seals.
  5. If clutch applies and releases, check valve body. If clutch does not operate okay, check for damaged end cover or other internal problem.
