Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Start and idle engine for 2 minutes or until DTC sets. If DTC P0761 and P0766 set, go to next step. If DTC P0761 sets, go to step 3). If flag P0761 does not set, problem is intermittent. Check all appropriate connections.
  2. Inspect TRS 3/4 fuse in underhood junction block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, inspect Light Green wire between TRS 3/4 fuse and 3rd gear actuator for short to ground. Repair as needed. Replace fuse. If circuit is okay, go to step 5).
  3. Inspect Light Green wire between TRS 3/4 fuse and 3rd gear actuator for open. Repair as needed. If circuit is okay, disconnect transaxle actuator connector. Measure resistance between terminals "A" and "B" on transaxle side of connector. If resistance is greater than 6 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 6 ohms or less, inspect Yellow/Black wire between 3rd gear actuator and PCM for open or short to ground. Repair as needed. If circuit is okay, replace PCM.
  4. Remove actuator connector plate. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between 3rd gear actuator terminals. If resistance is greater than 6 ohms, replace actuator. If resistance is 6 ohms or less, replace connector plate.
  5. Disconnect transaxle actuator connector. Measure resistance between terminals "A" and "B" on transaxle side of connector. If resistance is greater than 4 ohms, replace TRS 3/4 fuse. If resistance is 4 ohms or less, remove actuator connector plate. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between 3rd gear actuator terminals. If resistance is greater than 4 ohms, replace connector plate and TRS 3/4 fuse. If resistance is 4 ohms or less, replace actuator and TRS 3/4 fuse.
