Installation Procedure

IMPORTANT: Make sure the element's retaining tangs are properly seated in the two legs and the element piston is correctly positioned in the water inlet housing
  1. Replace the thermostat element using the service tool provided

  3. Install a new O-ring on the inlet housing:
    • 2.1. Install the thermostat and inlet housing into the cylinder block
    • 2.2. Install the retaining bolts

      Tighten the thermostat housing-to-block to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).

    • 2.3. Close the radiator drain plug and install the cylinder block drain plug

      Tighten the cylinder block drain plugs to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).

  4. Install the lower radiator hose

    IMPORTANT: The vehicle must be level when filling with coolant
  5. Fill the cooling system to the FULL COLD range with coolant. Use a 50/50 mixture of Dex-Cool™ antifreeze and clean water
  6. Run the engine until the upper radiator hose is hot, then add additional coolant, if needed, to bring the level to the FULL COLD range
  7. Install the coolant surge tank cap and check for leaks
