Valve Guides (Sizing New Guide)

  1. If a valve guide is replaced, size inside diameter of guide with Cylinder Head Repair Kit (SA9126E). Lubricate smaller diameter reamer with SAE 5W-30 weight oil or cutting oil. Using a 1/2-horsepower drill, slowly drive reamer through guide at speed of 500 RPM.
  2. Recheck oil clearance. If oil clearance is less than specified (too tight) carefully ream valve guide with larger reamer (DO NOT exceed maximum oil clearance). Before reaming each guide, clean reamer flutes.
