Horns Inoperative (Vehicles Without RKE System)

  1. Push both steering wheel horn switches. If both horns are inoperative, go to next step. If only one horn switch is inoperative, check horn switch and horn switch ground. If switch and connections are okay, replace roll connector.
  2. Check HORN (10-amp) fuse in underhood junction block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. If fuse blows again, repair short to ground in Orange wire between horn and underhood junction block. If fuse is okay and horns still do not operate, replace horn.
  3. Disconnect horn connector. Replace HORN fuse. Using DVOM, check voltage between ground and horn harness connector terminal "A" (Orange wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Orange wire between horn and underhood junction block.
  4. Check voltage between horn harness connector terminals "A" (Orange wire) and "C" (Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black wire between horn and underhood junction block.
  5. Using DVOM, check resistance between ground and horn harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire) while pressing horn button. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace horn. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, check for open in Black wire between horn and underhood junction block. Check for open in Black wire between horn switch and underhood junction block. Repair as necessary.
