Battery discharge protection/auxiliary consumer
To prevent the battery from becoming discharged, the exterior lamps are automatically deactivated under certain conditions. BCM monitors the status of the headlamp switch. If the parking light and headlamp switch is in the ON position when the ignition switch is in the CRANK or RUN position and is then turned to the OFF position, BCM starts a 10-minute timer. Once 10 minutes have passed, BCM cuts OFF the control current to the parking light and headlamp relay coils so that the exterior lamps are deactivated. This function is deactivated if any power level other than OFF is active. BCM deactivates the battery discharge protection if any of the following conditions exist. The parking light or headlamp switch is moved from the ON to the OFF position and back to the ON position while the battery discharge protection is activated. BCM detects that the parking light or headlamp switch was not active when the ignition was switched OFF.
