The control module is integrated into the SID unit. The SID unit has a 22-pin connector. The control module receives information from its own sensors and switches as well as from other systems.

The information is processed and used to activate the horn, control the instrument and display lighting, display CHECK messages and calculate trip computer functions. SID sends certain information to the bus.

The SID unit is supplied with +30 and is adapted for voltages of between 9 and 16 V when driving. When the ignition is ON, the control module is activated and the display lights up. Text from systems connected to the bus can still be presented on the SID unit's display even when the ignition is OFF.

The SID unit is active in the following situations:

If a fault occurs, the control module stores the diagnostic trouble codes. When the SID unit is replaced, it must be ordered for the car concerned and programmed by Saab Automobile.

When handling the control module, it is important to ground yourself first by touching the car body, for example. Avoid touching the pins in the SID unit connector.
