Diagnostic procedure
- Undo the hose clip on the charge air pipe and the screw on the bypass pipe. Move aside the bypass pipe.WARNING: The exhaust pipe from the turbocharger can be extremely hot. Proceed with caution.
- Remove the heat shield.
- Carefully knock repeatedly with a screwdriver to get the throttle arm back to its original position (anticlockwise). Note that the throttle arm must not be turned with pliers or the like as it can break or bend.IMPORTANT: The throttle arm must not be twisted with pliers or similar as the arm can break or distort.
- If the throttle arm does not return to its original position using the method above, unplug the oxygen sensor connector and remove the primary catalytic converter or disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the turbocharger. Otherwise, only perform steps 8, 10 and 11.
- Press the tip of a screwdriver against the top right part of the throttle disc while pressing in the throttle spindle and raising the throttle arm by hand.
- Press the tip of a screwdriver against the throttle disc while pressing in the throttle spindle and turning the throttle arm further to pass the edge of the exhaust turbine.
- If it is difficult to pass this edge, carefully file down the edge that hinders the throttle disc with a round file. Check that the throttle disc is not damaged.
- Connect the arm to the pushrod and secure it with the new clip specified above.
- Fit the primary catalytic converter and plug in the oxygen sensor or fit the front exhaust pipe. Grease the studs with 30 20 971 Screw thread paste.
Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)
- Fit the heat shield.
- Fit the bypass pipe using a new O-ring.
