Solar Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Saab 9-3 and 2000 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Solar sensor is located on top of dashboard, and is used to measure infrared radiation (radiated heat). See Figure . When solar radiation has increased and ambient air temperature is more than 59°F (15°C), ACC control module increases fan blower motor speed in an attempt to lower temperature.
Fan blower motor speed is changed immediately when solar sensor radiation changes. Because solar sensor measures infrared radiation, it cannot be tested using a fluorescent light. An incandescent light (at least 60 watts) or sun light must be used for testing.
