Mixed-Air Temperature Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Saab 9-3 and 2000 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The mixed-air temperature sensor is of the Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) type, with a pointed tip which is inserted into one of the climate control unit floor vents. See Figure . Airflow at this location is completely blended and constant, regardless of air distribution damper position.
When ACC control module has decided what temperature the mixed air should have, the mixed-air temperature sensor value is used to adjust position of air-mixing damper. If selected temperature is HI or LO, the mixed-air sensor value is not used. If mixed-air temperature value cannot be obtained, coolant temperature and air-mixing damper position are used to calculate a default value.
