Air RECIRCULATION Does Not Function

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Saab 9-3 and 2000 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If inside of vehicle windows mist up, air recirculation damper may be in recirculated air position. Ensure recirculation flap is in fresh air position when recirculation button is not pushed in, so that recirculation motor is electrically reversed.
  1. Locate air recirculation damper motor on side of climate control unit, behind glove box and air duct. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Turn ignition off. Disconnect air recirculation damper motor 2-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a Red/Green LED test light between damper motor harness connector terminals. Turn air recirculation switch on and off several times.
  2. If Red and Green LEDs illuminate alternately as switch is turned on and off, replace air recirculation damper motor. If Red and Green LEDs do not illuminate alternately as switch is turned on and off, repair faulty circuit between air recirculation damper motor and air recirculation switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . When repairs are completed, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs. Ensure A/C system operates properly. If A/C system does not operate properly, go to CONTROL MODULES  under COMPONENT TESTS.
