Steering Wheel: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Position front wheels in straight-ahead position. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
CAUTION: Steering wheel may separate very suddenly from tapered steering shaft. Clockspring leads can be damaged. Keep loosened steering wheel nut on threaded portion of shaft until wheel is loose.
  2. Place match marks on steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference. Loosen steering wheel nut. Gently ease steering wheel off of shaft to prevent damage to air bag clockspring. Remove nut and steering wheel.
