Passenger-side AIR Bag Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Ensure vehicle is located outside and at least 35 feet (10.6 m) away from other vehicles and people. Turn ignition to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Ensure passenger-side air bag module is firmly mounted to instrument panel. Verify there are no loose objects in front seats or on dashboard.
  3. Remove glove box. Disconnect electrical connector at back of air bag. Connect Detonator Adapter Cable (84 71 146 or 86 11 865) and plug cable into 2-pin air bag connector.
  4. Verify all windows are in up position. Connect Detonator Adapter Cable to Air Bag Detonator Device (84 711 104). Run cable through door opening and close vehicle doors. Place battery on ground about 35 feet (10.6 m) away from vehicle. Connect Air Bag Detonating Device to battery. Ensure no one is close to vehicle.
  5. Press button and detonate air bag. An explosion will be heard and White smoke will be visible inside vehicle. Disconnect detonating device from battery as soon as air bag detonates. Because of heat, wait 30 minutes before touching deployed air bag.
