DTC B1710: Engine Rpm Signal Fault

  1. Using Tech 1 scan tool, contact Main Instrument Unit (MIU). Start engine and vary engine speed. Read off engine speed value. If scan tool reading compares with actual engine speed, go to step  4 . If scan tool reading does not compare with actual engine speed, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect MIU 22-pin connector located on rear of instrument cluster. See Figure . Connect test light between connector terminal No. 12 (Green/Red wire) and ground. Operate starter motor for 10 seconds. If test light flashes, go to step  4 . If test light does not flash, go to next step.
  3. Ensure continuity is present in Green/Red wire between MIU 22-pin connector and Trionic module connector terminal No. 58. Trionic module is located under right side of instrument panel. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
  4. Use scan tool to clear all DTCs. Test drive vehicle at varying engine loads and RPM for 5 minutes. If DTC does not reoccur, system is okay. If DTC reoccurs, replace Trionic module. See TRIONIC MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
