Removal (900 Series)

  1. Remove engine/transaxle from vehicle. See ENGINE R & I . Rotate crankshaft until "0" mark on flywheel aligns with timing mark on flywheel cover. Remove inspection panel from valve cover. Disconnect ignition leads and vacuum hose (if equipped) from distributor. Remove distributor cap and valve cover.
  2. Remove center bolts from camshaft sprockets. Ensure camshafts remain at correct timing settings. Remove chain tensioner and camshaft sprockets. Remove crankshaft pulley and oil pump. Remove water pump pulley and water pump. Remove cylinder head-to-timing cover bolts.
  3. Remove timing cover bolts and cover. Note lengths and locations of retaining bolts. Remove timing chain and crankshaft sprocket.
