Wheel Bearing: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Release parking brake. Loosen secondary cables of parking brake so that lever may be drawn back.
  2. Remove dust plug from backing plate and disengage automatic adjuster. Insert a screwdriver through backing plate and hole in brake shoe, push in against parking brake lever to disengage catch. Push parking brake lever toward rear.
  3. Remove hub dust cap, cotter pin, and lock nut. Remove hub nut and washer. Remove brake drum, outer bearing, and seal. Using Bearing Remover (Rou. 370-02), place centering sleeve on axle.
  4. Install 2 half casings in place and clamp assembly with retaining ring. Remove inner bearing from axle with assembly and Extractor (Mot. 49). Remove grease seal deflector with extractor.
