Removing Wheel Bearing Housing

WARNING:

- Risk of squashing or crushing
→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
- Remove brake cover plate -1-
.
Brake cover plate
- 1.1 Unscrew screws on brake cover plate -2- .
- 1.2 Remove brake cover plate -1- .
- Loosen tie-rod ball -1-
on the wheel bearing housing -2-
.
Tie-rod ball on wheel bearing housing
- 2.1 Unscrew nut -3- as far as required from joint pin for tie-rod ball -4- until it is flush with the upper edge of joint pin for tierod ball -4- .
- 2.2 Press off joint pin for tie-rod ball -4- using > T40010A - ball joint puller .
- 2.3 Unscrew nut -3- from joint pin for tie-rod ball -4- , counter at the hexagon socket of the joint pin -4- and remove tie-rod ball -1- from the wheel bearing housing -2- .
- Unscrew nut -1-
and remove connecting link for front angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment -2-
from the lower trailing arm.

Information
The slots in the wheel bearing housing must not be widened using a chisel or similar tool!
- Loosen lower trailing arm -1-
from the wheel bearing housing.
Lower trailing arm
- 4.1 Counter at screw -3- and unscrew and remove nut on spring strut fork -2- .
- 4.2 Unscrew screw securing lower trailing arm to wheel bearing housing -6- .
- 4.3 Tilt lower trailing arm -1- at the joint and guide it up out of the wheel bearing housing. Make sure not to damage the boot on the drive shaft while doing this.
- Loosen upper trailing arm -1-
from wheel bearing housing.
Upper trailing arm
- 5.1 Secure the wheel bearing housing using > T10149 - support and > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack to prevent it from tilting and falling down.
- 5.2 Unscrew nut -2- for the screw on the wheel bearing housing -3- and pull screw on wheel bearing housing -3- out of the wheel bearing housing.
- 5.3 Loosen upper trailing arm -1- from the wheel bearing housing.
Information
Do not leave drive shafts hanging from the joint stop. Hold the drive shaft or tie it up if necessary.

Wheel bearing housing
- 6.1 Loosen control arm -2-
.
- 6.1.1 Unscrew nut -3- from the joint pin of the control arm -2- until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin. If necessary, counter at the hexagonal socket of the joint pin.
- 6.1.2 Press off axle joint of the control arm -2- using > T40010A - ball joint puller .
- 6.1.3 Screw off nut -3- on joint pin for the control arm -2- . If necessary, counter at the hexagon socket on the joint pin at the same time and remove control arm -2- from wheel bearing housing -1- .
- 6.2 Pull wheel bearing housing -1- out of the splines of the drive shaft and remove it.
