Installing Front-Axle Carrier
- Risk of squashing or crushing
→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
- Install front-axle carrier -9-
.
Screws on front-axle carrier
- 1.1 Move front-axle carrier into installation position on > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform .
- 1.2 Align front-axle carrier -9- according to the markings -A to D- .
- 1.3 Replace screws on front-axle carrier.
- 1.4 Screw in new screws on front-axle carrier and tighten in the sequence -1 to 8-
.
Screws -1 - to 4- :
> Initial - tightening 115 Nm (85 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 90°
Screws -5 - to 8- :
> Initial - tightening 115 Nm (85 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 90°
- > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform can now be removed.
- Secure engine mount -1-
.
Engine mount screws
- 3.1 Screw in and tighten screws -2-
.
> Tightening - torque 55 Nm (41 ftlb.)
- 3.2 Replace screws -3- .
- 3.3 Screw in and tighten screws -3-
.
> Tightening - torque 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
- 3.1 Screw in and tighten screws -2-
.
- Secure electric wire harness -1-
on front-axle carrier.

- 4.1 Position electric wire harness -1- .
- 4.2 Insert line bracket -3- into front-axle carrier.
- 4.3 Clip electric plug connection for engine mount -2- into the line bracket.
- 4.4 Screw on and tighten nut for line bracket -4-
.
> Tightening - torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
- Secure ground line -2-
on the bracket in the opposite direction to -direction of arrow-
. Make sure that the locking lugs -1-
lock correctly.
Ground line
- Secure electric lines on the right longitudinal member.

- 6.1 Position ground line -3-
and screw on and tighten nut -4-
.
> Tightening - torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
- 6.2 Position ground lines -1 to 6-
and screw on and tighten nut -2-
.
> Tightening - torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
- 6.3 Connect and lock electric plug connection -5- and secure it to the holder.
- 6.4 Secure clip -7- on the headlight vent line -8- .
- 6.1 Position ground line -3-
and screw on and tighten nut -4-
.
- Secure housing cover -2-
at the right longitudinal member. Make sure that the locking lug -1-
locks correctly.

- Install struts -1-
on both sides of the vehicle.
Strut
- 8.1 Position strut -1- and push threaded bolt for the strut -1- into the front-axle carrier.
- 8.2 Screw on and tighten nut on strut -3-
.
> Tightening - torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
- 8.3 Screw in and tighten screw on strut -2-
.
> Tightening - torque 3.6 Nm (2.6 ftlb.)
CAUTION: Wheel carrier raised incorrectly- Risk of squashing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
- Before tightening the screw securing control arm to front-axle carrier: Raise the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. >
VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack
with > T10149 - support
).
Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
- Secure control arm -1-
on front-axle carrier.

- 10.1 Remove fastening elements and position control arm -1- .
- 10.2 Replace screw securing control arm to front-axle carrier -2- and nut.
- 10.3 Screw in and tighten screw securing control arm to front-axle carrier -2-
. Counter at the nut -3-
at the same time and make sure not to damage the brake lines -4-
.
> Initial - tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 180°
- Install heat shields at the left and right.

- 11.1 Position heat shields.
- 11.2 Screw in and tighten screws -1-
.
> Tightening - torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
- 11.3 Screw in and tighten screw -2-
.
> Tightening - torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
