Interim storage of non-critical batteries Quarantine for critical batteries
Battery installed in a vehicle
No restrictions regarding where the vehicle may be parked/held in storage.
Recommendation: If a battery needs to be replaced, the battery should only be removed after the replacement battery has been delivered so that the replacement battery packaging can be used.
  • Park the vehicle in the defined quarantine location (outdoors and at a distance of at least 5 metres from buildings) and cordon off using > VAS 6884 - high-voltage barrier tape  and warning signs > VAS 6881 - warning sign (No unauthorized access)  , > VAS 6882 - warning sign (No fire, naked flames or smoking)  , > VAS 6649 - warning sign (Warning of dangerous electrical voltage)  > VAS 6786 - warning sign (Warning of dangers associated with batteries)  .
  • Consult Technical Support and agree on how to proceed.
  • Check the battery at regular intervals at least once a day.
  • Observe a quarantine period of at least 5 days before transporting.
The vehicle can be brought into the workshop in consultation with Technical Support for removal/repairs. However, it should remain there for as short a time as possible.
Battery not installed in a vehicle
  • If the battery is delivered in spare parts packaging:

Perform a visual check on the packaging if it is damaged. Classify the damage.

  • If not in spare parts packaging: Place the battery on a suitable load carrier (with protective cover, e.g. a pallet with wooden slats).
  • Store the battery temporarily at a predefined location (away from moving traffic, on solid ground, not stacked, close to a fire extinguisher) and attach a clearly visible warning sign VAS 6786.
  • Interim storage should be kept as short as possible.
  • If the battery needs to be stored for a longer period, comply with storage conditions.
  • Prepare > VAS 6885 - lattice box for high-voltage batteries  .
  • Move lattice box to the designated quarantine location.
  • Place battery in lattice box and seal the box.
  • Mark the box and storage location as required and cordon off using high-voltage barrier tape VAS 6884 and warning signs VAS 6881, VAS 6882, VAS 6649, VAS 6786.
  • Consult Technical Support and agree on how to proceed.
  • Check the battery at regular intervals at least once a day.
  • Observe a quarantine period of at least 5 days before transporting.
